Beyond the Ballot Box: Choosing the Kingdom You Belong To
5 Day Devotional
This five-day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, January 11, 2026. Together, we will explore our allegiance to the Kingdom of God, discovering how true discipleship transforms not only our hearts but also the world around us.
Day 1
Scripture: Philippians 3:20
Our journey begins by recognizing where our citizenship truly lies. Just as Paul reminded the church in Philippi, our true identity is anchored in the Kingdom of Heaven. This doesn't mean withdrawing from the world but approaching it differently, with a heart aligned to a higher calling than any earthly allegiance. As we navigate the pressures of modern life, it is essential to reaffirm that our loyalty to Jesus must take precedence over all else.
The exhaustion from societal demands often pulls us in multiple directions, demanding that we choose sides. Yet, as followers of Christ, our ultimate allegiance is to Jesus, who provides clarity amidst chaos. This day, let us commit to cultivating an identity shaped by our heavenly citizenship, allowing it to influence our actions, thoughts, and words.
What does it mean to you to have citizenship in heaven?
How can you let your allegiance to Jesus influence your daily choices?
Reflect on a time when societal pressures challenged your faith. How did you respond?
Pray for clarity in your identity as a citizen of heaven.
Ask God to guide you in aligning your actions with His Kingdom values.
Day 2
Scripture: Matthew 22:21
Jesus' words, "Render to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's," instruct us to transcend binary thinking and live with discernment. Earthly responsibilities and divine allegiance coexist, yet the latter shapes our ultimate sense of identity and purpose. Jesus is not calling for a division of loyalties but a reordered perspective that places Him at the center of all we do.
In a culture often dominated by extremes, our challenge is to engage without compromise. Acknowledge earthly duties with integrity but remember that our souls and devotion belong solely to God. Let's strive to be faithful stewards in both realms, allowing our primary allegiance to guide us in love, humility, and truth.
How can you balance your earthly responsibilities with your heavenly allegiance?
In what areas of your life do you feel a tension between societal expectations and biblical values?
How does recognizing God’s ownership of your life influence your decisions?
Seek God’s wisdom in discerning how to live faithfully in today’s world.
Pray for courage to prioritize God’s kingdom above all else.
Day 3
Scripture: Romans 12:2
Paul encourages us to not conform to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Our minds are powerful tools in shaping our identity and actions. As believers in Christ, we are called to be guided by Scripture, allowing it to challenge and shape our perspective rather than the prevailing cultural ideologies.
The subtle drift away from allegiance to Christ can occur when other influences take precedence in our lives. Recognize the pressures of societal norms and the temptation to allow them to dictate our beliefs. Let's strive to immerse ourselves more deeply in God's word, inviting the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out.
What worldly patterns are you most tempted to conform to?
How can you actively renew your mind in Christ daily?
Identify an area of your life that needs reformation under Christ’s guidance.
Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in renewing your mind.
Ask for strength to resist conformity to worldly patterns.
Day 4
Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9
The scriptures remind us that we are a chosen people, set apart to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. Embracing our identity in Christ means living with purpose and clarity, rooted not in the validation of society but in the truth of God’s promises. This distinct identity propels us to reflect His grace and truth in all interactions.
Our allegiance to God’s Kingdom redefines how we engage with the world around us, breaking down barriers and building bridges rooted in love. As we reflect on our roles as His representatives, may we prioritize His agenda, building relationships that mirror His transformative love.
What does it mean to be part of a chosen people for you personally?
How can your life better reflect the calling you have received?
Consider a relationship where your allegiance to God's kingdom can have a positive impact.
Pray for strength to live out your identity as part of God’s chosen people.
Ask for guidance in being an ambassador of God’s grace in your community.
Day 5
Scripture: Colossians 3:1-2
In his letter to the Colossians, Paul challenges us to set our hearts and minds on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. This perspective encourages us to live not for the temporal but for the eternal, aligning our hearts with Christ’s Kingdom values. Our allegiance to Jesus shapes our daily lives and choices, providing a foundation that remains unshakable.
An eternal mindset alters how we approach life’s challenges and triumphs, reinforcing our faith in a King whose promises endure beyond human understanding. This day, let us reaffirm our commitment to Christ, allowing His eternal truth to guide our earthly journey.
How does setting your mind on things above change your daily perspective?
Identify distractions that pull your focus away from eternal truths.
Reflect on one area of life where you can better align with Christ's eternal perspective.
Pray for a mind steadfastly focused on God’s Kingdom.
Ask for clarity in distinguishing eternal purposes over temporal interests.
