Experience the Power of Prayer

At United Church, we believe in the power of prayer. It is the foundation of our faith, connecting us deeply with God and transforming our lives. Prayer at United is where miracles happen, burdens are lifted, and hope is renewed.

Our dedicated Prayer Team works tirelessly to create an environment where every petition and praise reaches heaven, bringing us closer to God and igniting a deeper, more meaningful relationship with Christ. We are committed to nurturing a prayerful spirit that hears God's voice and actively seeks His guidance in every aspect of our lives.

Fasting Guide

Here are three different ways to fast. Choose the approach that best helps you focus on God and grow spiritually.

Pro Tip: If you are new to fasting from food and you want to move beyond The Selective Fast, a great way to start is by fasting from sunup to sundown.

  • A complete food fast is a serious commitment. This is recommended for those who have experience with long-term fasting and feel a strong spiritual calling.

Safety First: Consult a doctor before beginning, especially if you take regular medication or have a medical condition. This fast is not recommended for those under 18.

Support: Inform your spouse, a trusted friend, or your Parish Elder so they can check in on you.

Nutrition: Incorporate fruit juices, smoothies, or broths. Aim for 7–10 glasses (8oz) of water daily.

Breaking the Fast: Transition slowly by eating only fruits and vegetables at first.

  • This involves fasting from specific items or certain meals to create space for God.

Examples: Skipping one meal a day, or abstaining from "pleasurable" items like desserts, coffee, alcohol, or eating out.

The Goal: Use the time you would normally spend eating to seek the Lord in Scripture. When you feel a hunger pang, let it serve as a prompt to center yourself on God’s goodness.

  • Focus on fasting from activities or distractions that consume your time and attention.

Examples: Social media, shopping, television, or gaming.

The Goal: Replace digital noise with spiritual silence and prayer.
