Step Into the Season of Lent

What is Lent?

Lent is a forty-day season of reflection, fasting, and renewal, beginning on Ash Wednesday and leading to Easter. The name comes from an old Anglo-Saxon word meaning "lengthen," referencing spring’s longer days. It mirrors Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness, where He fasted and prayed.

For centuries, Christians have observed Lent through repentance, fasting, and acts of service. Today, it remains a time for us to deepen our faith by giving something up and drawing closer to God. Each Sunday in Lent is a "mini-Easter," where we eagerly anticipate Jesus' resurrection.

How to Participate in Lent

Prayer and fasting help us let go of the things of the world and hold on to the things of Jesus.

Elder-Led Prayer

February 18

Elder-Led Prayer is a night of worship, prayer and reflection led by our elders. This is an intimate event for our church family to come together and prepare for Lent, leading up to Easter.

Weekly Prayer & Fasting

Starting February 18, we’ll be fasting weekly leading up to Easter from sunup to sundown on Wednesdays.

Serve

Give of yourself and partner with others. Find opportunities through our Community Partners.

If you have experience fasting, consider a juice fast or a water-only fast—just be sure to consult with your doctor first. First time fasting? Try skipping a meal or giving up certain foods.

Fasting it not required for children, the elderly, and those with health conditions that make fasting unsafe. If you can’t fast from food, sacrifice something that challenges you for 40 days.

Other ways to engage in Lent:
