Divine Intervention Devotional

5 Day Devotional

This five-day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, June 22nd. We will explore the themes of divine interruptions and how God orchestrates unexpected encounters in our lives, encouraging each of us to embrace the inclusion that comes through Jesus.

Day 1

Scripture: Acts 8:26-40

On our first day, we focus on the concept of divine interruptions. God often leads us into unexpected places and encounters that challenge our preconceived notions about who belongs in the Kingdom. Just as Philip was instructed to leave a thriving ministry to meet the Ethiopian eunuch, we, too, must recognize that God may interrupt our routines to connect us with someone in need. Reflect on how these interruptions could be divine appointments and how they can lead to meaningful connections that spread the love of Christ.

  • How can I be more open to divine interruptions in my life?

  • Have there been times when I missed an opportunity to connect because I was focused on my own agenda?

  • In what ways can I prepare my heart to be more available for God’s leading?

  • Pray for eyes to see the people around you with God’s perspective.

  • Ask God for the courage to step outside of your comfort zone.

Day 2

Scripture: Acts 8:29-31

As we dive deeper into Philip’s journey, we see him prompted by the Holy Spirit to approach the chariot. This day’s focus is on practicing proximity over prejudice. Philip didn’t allow differences to deter him; instead, he ran towards the eunuch, demonstrating that reaching out can bridge gaps. Reflect on the barriers that society creates and consider how you can actively confront them by building relationships with those who seem different.

  • Who in my life do I perceive as 'different,' and how can I reach out to them?

  • How does my comfort zone prevent me from forming new relationships?

  • What steps can I take to practice proximity over prejudice in my community?

  • Pray for God to soften your heart towards those you’ve distanced yourself from.

  • Ask for wisdom in navigating conversations about uncomfortable subjects.

Day 3

Scripture: Acts 8:34-35

In today’s scripture, we observe Philip explaining the Scriptures to the eunuch. Our theme centers on embracing questions over quick answers. This approach emphasizes the importance of listening and inviting questions rather than lecturing. When we create space for inquiry, we allow the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts of those who are seeking understanding. Reflect on how you can cultivate a spirit of inquiry in your conversations about faith.

  • How comfortable am I with questions, both my own and those of others?

  • Do I often find myself rushing to provide answers instead of listening?

  • What can I learn from asking questions instead of giving answers?

  • Pray for a heart that is open to learn and grow through conversations.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the right questions to ask others about their faith journey.

Day 4

Scripture: Acts 8:36-38

Today's passages highlight the moment of baptism for the eunuch, illustrating immediate inclusion into the family of God. This section speaks to the radical acceptance Jesus offers, showing that nothing prevents someone from being welcomed into God’s kingdom. Reflect on the barriers that may still keep people from feeling included in the church community, and consider how you can help dismantle them to foster a more welcoming environment.

  • What barriers exist in my church community that may exclude others?

  • How can I actively work to promote inclusivity in my interactions?

  • What does it mean for me to embrace the fullness of inclusion that Jesus offers?

  • Pray for those who feel excluded from the church.

  • Seek God’s guidance on how to be a more inclusive presence in your community.

Day 5

Scripture: Acts 8:39

On our final day, we reflect on the rejoicing of the eunuch after his baptism. This moment of joy exemplifies the transformation that comes when exclusion turns into inclusion. The good news is that every person who encounters Jesus is welcomed into His family. Reflect on how this transformation underscores your own faith journey and how you can share the joy of salvation with others in your life.

  • How has my personal experience with inclusion or exclusion shaped my faith?

  • Who can I share my story of joy and transformation with this week?

  • How can I help others experience the joy of knowing they belong?

  • Pray for opportunities to share the joy of Christ with others.

  • Ask the Lord to direct you towards someone who needs to hear the good news.
