How to Find a Purpose That Matters

5 Day Devotional

This five-day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, October 5, 2025. Join us as we explore the journey from comfort to calling, and how we can become a launchpad for transformative impact in our communities and beyond. Each day will guide us through scripture and reflections designed to ignite our spiritual growth and understanding.

Day 1

Scripture: Acts 13:2

Our journey begins with the concept of being 'set apart' for a divine purpose. In the church at Antioch, the Holy Spirit spoke during a time of worship, calling for Barnabas and Saul to be set apart for a greater mission. This wasn't a suggestion but a divine command that called for immediate obedience. This passage challenges us to examine our own lives. Are we living in comfort, or are we prepared to heed the call to step into a greater purpose?

As we reflect on this scripture, consider how often we prioritize our own comfort over the calling God has for us. The example set by the leaders in Antioch shows that true fulfillment and transformation come from stepping out in faith and trusting the Holy Spirit's guidance. What might God be calling you to step into today?

  • Have you experienced a moment where you felt 'set apart' for a specific purpose? Describe it.

  • What comfort zones in your life are holding you back from a greater mission?

  • In what areas do you struggle to trust the Holy Spirit's guidance?

  • Pray for the courage to step out of your comfort zone when you feel God calling you.

  • Ask God for clarity on what specific mission He is setting you apart for.

Day 2

Scripture: Acts 13:4

The second day of our devotional focuses on the journey of obedience and the power of the Holy Spirit. After being set apart, Barnabas and Saul didn't hesitate to act. They were sent by the Holy Spirit, not by human decision, to embark on a mission that would spread the word of God. This reminds us that when we allow the Spirit to guide us, we are empowered beyond our capabilities to fulfill our divine purpose.

This journey invites us to consider how we might be called to new places or people, not through our strength but through the Spirit's leading. The compelling force of the Holy Spirit makes the impossible possible. How open are you to being led to new spiritual encounters?

  • Reflect on a time when obedience to God led you somewhere unexpected.

  • Where might God be sending you in your life today?

  • How do you ensure you are guided by the Spirit rather than your own desires?

  • Pray for a deeper sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading in your daily life.

  • Ask for bravery to embrace new directions with an open heart.

Day 3

Scripture: Acts 13:9-10

Today we delve into the theme of spiritual confrontation as witnessed by Paul and the magician Elymas. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Paul confronts the deceit and obstruction posed by Elymas, showcasing the authority and power that comes from a Spirit-led life. This episode demonstrates the real spiritual warfare present in our journey and challenges us to become active participants in dispelling darkness.

Confronting darkness is never easy. It requires courage, authority, and most importantly, the presence of the Holy Spirit. As believers, we're called not just to observe but to act against spiritual impediments. How prepared are you to stand up against spiritual challenges in your life?

  • Have you ever faced a 'spiritual battle'? What was your response?

  • What steps can you take to strengthen your spiritual authority in Christ?

  • Identify an area in your life that requires confrontation of darkness. What is it?

  • Ask God for the strength to confront challenges with His authority.

  • Pray for discernment to recognize spiritual battles and for wisdom on how to combat them.

Day 4

Scripture: Acts 13:11-12

On this day, we reflect on the transformative power of God’s actions. When Elymas was struck blind, it wasn’t just a display of power; it was a transformative moment that led the proconsul to believe. This illustrates that our acts of faith, when led by the Spirit, have the potential to bring enlightenment and belief to others around us.

Our actions, when in obedience to God, are tools for divine transformation. Like the proconsul, others watch our actions and decisions. What kind of testimony do your actions display? Are you allowing your life to be a demonstration of God’s power and love?

  • In what ways can your actions serve as a testament to God’s power in your life?

  • How do you handle situations where your faith is publicly on display?

  • Reflect on a time when your testimony impacted someone else.

  • Pray for the Spirit to guide your actions so that they may bring glory to God.

  • Ask for opportunities to let your testimony shine brightly to those around you.

Day 5

Scripture: Acts 12:24-25

The growth of God's word despite adversity is a powerful testament to the church's resilience and the unstoppable nature of God's plan. The early church's persistence in prayer and faith, even during intense persecution, resulted in the multiplication of believers and the expansion of their spiritual reach.

We are reminded that our trials, when faced with faith and perseverance, contribute to God’s grander vision. Our role as modern believers is to steward this legacy—praying unceasingly, standing firm in faith, and advancing the mission of the church. In doing so, we become active participants in God’s redemptive story for our world.

  • How does being part of a diverse community strengthen your faith and mission?

  • What is your role within your spiritual community?

  • Consider the unique gifts you have. How can you use these to support your community?

  • Pray for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diversity within your community.

  • Ask for a heart of unity and cooperation in fulfilling the shared mission of the church.
