A United Witness to a Divided World

5 Day Devotional

This five day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, March 1, 2026. We will explore how love and truth can transform not only our lives but also our communities as witnessed through the teachings of Jesus. Join us on this journey as we seek to embody the kind of love that Jesus talks about—a cruciform, sacrificial love that reaches beyond division.

Day 1

John 13:34–35

On the first day of our devotional, we explore Jesus’ new command: to love one another as He loves us. This love is not just a feeling but an intentional, sacrificial action that reflects the very character of Jesus. In a world that often celebrates division, Jesus challenges us to witness through unified love. His call is not simply to avoid negativity but to actively express a love that mirrors His own.

This command has far-reaching consequences for our lives. It invites us to reconsider how we interact with others, especially those who are different from us. Our love becomes our testimony. Instead of finding what divides us, we search for paths to join together, knowing that our unity bears witness more powerfully than our words or arguments ever could.

  • How can I better embody Jesus' love in my daily interactions?

  • What are the barriers I put up that prevent me from loving others fully?

  • Who in my life needs to see more of Jesus' love through my actions?

  • Lord, help me to love others as You have loved me, sacrificially and sincerely.

  • Pray for a spirit of unity in our community, that our love would be a beacon to those around us.

Day 2

Matthew 28:18–20

Today's focus is on the Great Commission—Jesus' call to make disciples of all nations. This is not merely a directive for evangelism; it is a powerful reminder of our calling to influence the world through love and service. Jesus empowers us to spread His teachings not through force but through compassion and relationship-building.

The commission is a call to action fueled by our love for God and others. In making disciples, we are to engage with diverse cultures and peoples, demonstrating through our lives the reign of Christ. As we practice this process, we must remember that the way we go matters. Are we extending genuine invitations, or are we focused on winning arguments? Let your life be the message—one of love, integrity, and transforming grace.

  • What fears hold me back from sharing my faith with others?

  • How can I build authentic relationships that invite others to know Christ?

  • Am I reflecting Christ's authority in how I interact with different cultures?

  • Pray for courage to share Jesus' message without fear.

  • Seek guidance on forming meaningful relationships that open doors to the Gospel.

Day 3

Acts 2:42–47

In today's devotional, we reflect on the early church, which serves as a powerful model for us. This community devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. Their example shows us what authentic Christian community can look like—a place where relationships are deep and resources are shared. This 'togetherness' made their witness compelling.

Their unity was not about uniformity but about shared purpose and mutual care. Their love and fellowship spoke volumes to those outside their community. As a church today, we are challenged to recapture this spirit of generosity and support. We are not to isolate from or blend into the culture, but to stand firm in a unity that reflects Christ.

  • In what ways can I contribute to building a stronger community of faith?

  • How does the early church's example challenge my understanding of fellowship?

  • How can I show generosity in my church community?

  • Ask God to help you find practical ways to be devoted to your faith community.

  • Pray for the wisdom to balance individuality and collective unity in relationships.

Day 4

John 17:22–23

As we reach Day 4, we explore Jesus' prayer for unity among His followers. His prayer was that we would be one, just as He and the Father are one. This divine unity speaks not just of agreement but of effective witness to the truth of the Gospel. Our unity signals to the world that Jesus is Lord, challenging the patterns of division that often prevail in society.

This unity is demonstrated not by avoiding hard conversations but by engaging in them with love, patience, and understanding. Jesus calls us to maintain unity without sacrificing truth, showing the world around us a consistent example of God's love. We are invited to ask whether our lives reflect this prayer and unity that Jesus desires.

  • How can I strive for unity without compromising on truth?

  • What can I change in my attitude to better reflect the unity Jesus desires?

  • Are there relationships in my life that need healing in order to model unity?

  • Pray for God's guidance in handling difficult conversations with grace.

  • Ask for strength to resist the cultural pressures that divide us.

Day 5

Philippians 2:1–4

The final day of our devotional centers on the humility encouraged in Philippians. Paul urges us to adopt the mindset of Christ, looking not to our own interests but to the interests of others. This selflessness is the hallmark of a united and effective community, where love and truth walk hand in hand.

Real love is humble. It seeks not self-glory, but the good of others. In a divided world, embodying this Christ-like humility can transform our witness. By surrendering our egos and embracing service, we honor Jesus' teachings and make His love visible. As we end this week, let us commit to being vessels of His love and humility.

  • What does it mean for me to embody Christ's humility today?

  • How can I prioritize the needs of others above my own desires?

  • In what specific areas do I need to practice greater humility?

  • Ask for a heart willing to submit to God and serve others.

  • Pray for the ability to see others through the lens of Christ's compassion and humility.Rewatch the Sermon
