Why Bother With Jesus?
5 Day Devotional
This five day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, May 10, 2026. Together, we will explore the profound reality of why we bother with Jesus, who goes beyond concepts and philosophies as He is a living presence in our lives.
Day 1
John 1:14
Today, we focus on the incredible truth that the Word became flesh. Jesus did not remain distant but chose to dwell among us, experiencing life as we do. The significance of the incarnation is that God became tangible, relatable, and present in our daily lives. This sets Christianity apart from mere concepts or philosophies; it centers around a God who intimately knows our struggles, joys, and pains because He became one of us.
This is not just a historical event but a living reality. Jesus is here; He is personal and actively engaging with us today. We are invited to not just understand this truth intellectually but to experience an ongoing relationship with Him.
When have you experienced Jesus as a personal, living presence in your life?
How does understanding the incarnation change how you view your relationship with God?
In what ways can you open your life more fully to His presence today?
Ask God to reveal Himself to you in personal ways this week.
Reflect on what it means for you to live as though Jesus is present in every aspect of your life.
Day 2
Philippians 2:5–11
The character of Jesus is marked by humility and servitude. Though He was in very nature God, He did not cling to His divine privileges but made Himself nothing. This passage tells us that true greatness is found in lowering oneself to serve others, following the ultimate example set by Jesus Himself.
Jesus' willingness to humble Himself and serve should inspire us to examine how we use whatever power or influence we may have. His example urges us to serve others selflessly, putting their needs before ours, reflecting His character in our daily interactions.
How does Jesus' example of humility challenge you personally?
In what areas of your life can you practice more humility and servitude?
How can you reflect the character of Jesus in your everyday relationships?
Pray for a heart like Jesus' heart — one that seeks to serve and uplift others.
Consider ways you can embody Jesus' humility and servitude in your community.
Day 3
Romans 5:6–8
Paul writes about the overwhelming love of God demonstrated through Jesus’ sacrifice while we were still sinners. This is the pursuit of Jesus — meeting us where we are, not after we've reached a certain level of goodness. This love doesn’t wait for us to be worthy; it makes us worthy.
This understanding transforms our view of grace and acceptance. We cannot earn God’s love or approval through our actions. Instead, His love accepts us as we are and invites us into transformation. Jesus comes to us in our brokenness, offering a path of healing and redemption.
How does it feel to know Jesus loves you in your most unworthy state?
What can you do today to accept Jesus' love more fully?
In what ways does understanding this pursuit impact your relationship with Him?
Thank Him for His love that meets you where you are.
Ask for strength to accept His grace and extend it to others, even when it's difficult.
Day 4
John 1:14
Let’s revisit the scripture that reminds us that Jesus moved into the neighborhood — He did not remain distant. His presence among us shows a commitment to being intimately involved in the human experience. This truth is pivotal because it means Jesus empathizes with our condition and offers help and hope rooted in real experience.
This challenges us to understand that our spirituality must also be lived out amidst real, everyday circumstances. We are called to invite Jesus into each of these spaces and reflect His presence through our interactions and choices.
What areas of your life feel distant from Jesus right now?
How can you invite Jesus into the mundane and extraordinary moments of your day?
How does knowing Jesus walks among us affect your sense of purpose and destiny?
Ask Jesus to reveal areas where His presence is needed in your life.
Reflect on the difference His presence makes in your everyday experiences.
Day 5
Philippians 2:5–11
On this final day, we revisit the passage about Jesus’ humility and exaltation. God exalted Him because of His heart of servitude. This reminds us that true honor and recognition come not from self-promotion but from honoring God and serving others.
The path of Jesus is one of humility leading to glory — countercultural in our world obsessed with self-importance. We are called to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, trusting that God will lift us up, not by our merits, but by His grace.
How does this perspective change the way you approach success and recognition?
What practical steps can you take to live a life marked by humble service?
How can you keep your focus on God's exaltation over worldly success?
Pray for a heart that seeks God’s honor over personal gain.
