Tear the Roof Off

5 Day Devotional

This five day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, July 5, 2026. We will explore the themes of faith, desperation for Jesus, and how our relationships and actions can lead others to Christ. Each day, reflect on the scriptures and messages to deepen your understanding and personal walk with God.

Day 1

Mark 2:1-12

In the heart of Mark’s Gospel, we find a vivid depiction of desperation and faith, as a group of friends do everything possible to get their paralyzed friend to Jesus. This story is not just about a miraculous healing, but about the relentless faith of those who believe that encountering Jesus can transform lives. Just as Judah relentlessly sought to introduce Pastor to Jesus, we are called to have that same fervent faith that leads others towards Christ.

Desperate faith isn’t deterred by obstacles—it presses on, climbs higher, and is undeterred by the crowd or the building. It signifies a belief so profound that it challenges and inspires those around it. We are reminded through Mark's narrative that Jesus not only sees our faith but responds to it, with the ultimate purpose of restoring and renewing lives.

  • Reflect on a time someone helped bring you closer to Jesus. How did it impact your faith journey?

  • In what ways can you pursue a more desperate faith that seeks Jesus for yourself and others?

  • Are there barriers or hesitations holding you back from sharing your faith with others?

  • Pray for the passion and courage to overcome obstacles in bringing others to Jesus.

  • Ask God to reveal opportunities to share your faith and to bless those encounters with His presence.

Day 2

Proverbs 3:5-6

This scripture underlines the importance of trust and reliance on the Lord. In Pastor's life, it was a guiding principle taught by his father, a seed planted before he even fully understood the Gospel. This formative teaching highlights the importance of disciplining and nurturing faith from an early age, showcasing how faith learned in childhood can lead to monumental shifts in adulthood.

As we meditate on this passage, consider how foundational teachings in our lives impact us. Trust in God paves the way for divine guidance and clarity in our paths, just as those foundational teachings instilled in Pastor eventually led him to a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ. Faith passed down through generations can transform families and communities.

  • Reflect on the scriptures or teachings that have been foundational in your life. How have they guided you?

  • Consider how you can disciple others, sharing wisdom and fostering faith.

  • What steps can you take to lean not on your own understanding, but to trust fully in God?

  • Pray for wisdom and discernment to follow God’s path for your life.

  • Seek God’s guidance on how you can be a role model of faith to others.

Day 3

Romans 10:14-15

Paul's words remind us of the vital role we play as messengers of the Gospel. Just as Judah acted to bring Pastor to church, our small actions, motivated by love, can have everlasting impacts. How will people hear about the good news unless we, the carriers of this life-changing message, take it upon ourselves to share it?

The biblical mandate is clear: we are called to proclaim the gospel, to act as the feet of those who bring good news. This means stepping out in faith, speaking truth, and above all, caring deeply about the eternal destinies of those around us. How beautiful are the feet that move with the message of Christ’s love and redemption.

  • Who in your life is God prompting you to reach out to with the Gospel?

  • How can you step out of your comfort zone to share Christ’s love more boldly?

  • What steps can you take to prepare yourself to be a messenger of good news?

  • Pray for courage and wisdom to share your faith story.

  • Ask God to prepare hearts that are ready to receive His message through you.

Day 4

2 Corinthians 5:17-20

As new creations in Christ, we are charged with the ministry of reconciliation. This transformative change compels us to invite others into the story of renewal that Jesus offers. We learn from the sermon that change is predicated by faith, and our testimonies can be powerful tools in spreading Christ’s message of redemption and new beginnings.

Recognizing that we have been given a new identity in Christ should motivate us to live it out loud, influencing those around us. To live as Christ’s ambassadors is a profound responsibility and an incredible privilege, signaling to a broken world the hope and joy that comes through Jesus.

  • Think about your faith journey; how has becoming a new creation in Christ changed you?

  • Consider the legacy of faith you wish to create for future generations.

  • Who in your life needs to hear about Jesus and His renewing power?

  • Ask God to help you embrace your identity as His ambassador.

  • Pray for opportunities and boldness to introduce others to the transformative power of Christ.

Day 5

Philippians 2:1-5

The call for unity and humility is pivotal in living out our faith. Pastor’s experience teaches us the power of living with others in mind, being considerate of others' spiritual needs, and making sacrifices for their eternal benefit. As we emulate Christ’s humility, we can better serve those around us, bringing them closer to Him.

Our faith walk is strengthened through community and shared purpose, challenges us to look beyond ourselves, and to serve selflessly as Christ did. A life lived following the example of Jesus results in community transformation, not by grand gestures but through acts of sacrificial love and kindness.

  • Consider how humility and unity reflect Christ in your daily interactions.

  • What practical ways can you put others’ interests above your own, exemplifying Christ’s love?

  • Reflect on the community you are a part of; how can you contribute to its spiritual growth?

  • Ask God to develop in you a spirit of humility and unity.

  • Pray for your community and your role within it to be one that reflects Christ’s example.
