This five day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, June 28, 2026. We will explore the transformative power of encountering Jesus beyond the inherited and learned traditions. Join us as we immerse ourselves in the scriptures that reveal the suffering, rising King, truly examining His word and meeting Him face to face.
Day 1
Acts 17:2-3
Today, we reflect on the profound message conveyed by Paul during his time in Thessalonica. Paul preached the necessity of Christ's suffering and resurrection, an unaltered gospel message that has the power to uproot and redefine our lives. His message challenges us to move beyond a surface level understanding of Jesus. The same King who suffered and rose offers us the chance to meet Him in His genuine form, not as a legacy inherited but as a living person encountered.
The significance of Paul's message lies in its simplicity and profundity. In coming to know this Jesus, our loyalties are tested, as are the alignments we've formed with the world's various offerings and ideologies. We must examine whether our image of Jesus aligns with the King of the Gospel, asking ourselves if we have met Him truly or merely know of Him through tradition and external influences.

Day 2
Isaiah 53
The scripture in Isaiah 53 illustrates the suffering servant, a prophecy fulfilled by Jesus Christ. This depiction defies typical notions of kingship, where power is established through dominance. Instead, Jesus' kingship is established through suffering and humility, shocking against the backdrop of worldly power structures. His reign from the cross is a depiction of a king who chooses love and sacrifice over authority and conquest.
This perspective can be challenging, as it calls into question the kings and powers we currently serve. True allegiance to Jesus means understanding His kingdom's values, which often oppose societal norms. Embracing His path can cause dissonance with our world, but offers a deep and authentic connection with our Savior who chose humility over grandeur and sacrifice over self preservation.

Day 3
Psalms 16
Psalms 16 beautifully encapsulates the assurance and joy found in the presence of God. It reminds us that Jesus' resurrection validates His teachings and promises. It affirms that He alone possesses the power to lead us into the fullness of life, marked by peace, hope, and eternity.
As believers, we are invited to trust and find refuge in Him, to let His resurrection be the foundation of our faith journey. Encountering the risen King compels us to reflect on what we truly hold as valuable and where we place our ultimate hope. Do our lives reflect reliance on His power and promises, or are we still swayed by temporary and fleeting aspirations?

Day 4
Luke 24:6-7
In Luke, the angels proclaim to the women at the tomb that He is not there; He has risen. This confirmation of resurrection not only fulfills prophecy but establishes Jesus as the victorious King who conquered death. It invites reflection on the impact of this event on our faith and the transformation it calls for in our daily lives.
Living with the resurrection in our heart offers freedom from the chains of sin and fear of death. It challenges us to live boldly in the new life that Jesus offers, shedding the weight of past missteps and embracing the future He has secured. As we consider the reality of the empty tomb, we explore how this transforming truth influences our reactions, relationships, and purpose.

John 20:14-16
In John, Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene, calling her by name and revealing His resurrected self. This personal encounter underscores the intimate relationship Jesus seeks with each of His followers. Meeting Him transforms our understanding not just of who He is, but of who we are in Him.
To truly encounter Jesus is to accept His transformative love and calling. It is an invitation to abandon the shallow waters of inherited faith and step into a deeper engagement that releases us into a dynamic, vibrant discipleship. This relationship is not a relic of our lineage but an unfolding journey that reshapes identity and purpose, allowing His voice to lead us in ways beyond comprehension.
