Proven At His Table
5 Day Devotional
This five day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, March 29, 2026. Throughout this journey, we’ll explore the pivotal theme of how the gospel is proven at the table of community and how we can embody this truth in our everyday lives, creating genuine spaces of welcome and transformation.
Day 1
Acts 15:22–35
As we begin our journey, we reflect on how the early church's decision to unite under grace alone was essential for forming a cohesive community. The story from Antioch highlights the struggle when social pressures shift our convictions. The tension between Peter’s association with Gentiles and his retreat from them due to influence reminds us that our belief in grace must be lived out in our relationships and gatherings.
The same gospel that brings us salvation demands that we abandon prejudices and social barriers at the table of fellowship. Today, we are invited to examine our tables: who do we include and who might we be pulling away from unconsciously? It's here, in these personal spaces, that the gospel's authenticity is tested and proven.
Have there been times when I’ve hesitated to sit with those different from me?
How does fear of social repercussions influence my actions and relationships? What steps can I take to make my table more inclusive?
Pray for the courage to embody your beliefs in every social setting.
Ask God for insight into areas where your faith and actions may not align.
Day 2
Galatians 2:11-14
The confrontation in Galatians reveals the conflict between conviction and societal expectations. Paul's bold challenge to Peter serves as a necessary reminder that the gospel challenges norms and often calls for uncomfortable honesty. Our convictions must translate into consistent actions, reflecting a truth that welcomes and honors all at the table without discrimination.
The lesson here encourages us not only to introspect but also to confront lovingly and truthfully when our communities stray from gospel truths. As Judas and Silas exemplified, being present and committed to clarity within relationships is key to fostering understanding and unity.
Reflect on areas where I might be inconsistent with my faith's principles.
Who in my life might need encouragement to align actions with beliefs?
What opportunities do I have to demonstrate gospel clarity in my community?
Seek wisdom to encourage and uplift others in their walk with Christ.
Pray for courage to speak truth even when it is uncomfortable.
Day 3
Acts 11:1-18
Peter's vision and the subsequent acceptance of Gentile believers marked a revolutionary shift from cultural exclusion to inclusivity in the church. This biblical account challenges us to reconsider our preconceived notions and biases that create barriers. The openness to change and the willingness to stand by God's inclusive grace led to impactful communities where diversity was cherished rather than shunned.
God's message through Peter emphasizes that no one is to be deemed 'unclean' or unworthy of communion within the church. Today, we are invited to be champions of this inclusive love, making adjustments in our thinking and actions to embody the gospel genuinely in diverse settings.
What biases or prejudices do I need to confront in my heart today?
How has God challenged my understanding of inclusion within the church?
In what ways can my table reflect the diversity of God’s family?
Pray for a heart open to change and new understandings in faith.
Ask for God’s love to overrule any preconceptions and embrace all His children.
Day 4
1 Corinthians 11:17-26
The practice of communion reminds us of the unity and equality intended at the Lord’s table. In his letter, Paul addressed the Corinthian church’s divisions, calling them to consider the purpose and meaning of sharing the Lord's Supper. The table is where societal hierarchies dissolve, replaced by a shared identity in Christ.
This passage challenges us to evaluate our tables — who do we invite to share in the most sacred expressions of faith? More than a ritual, communion reflects a lifestyle of embodied grace and shared lives across all divides. How are we fostering environments where the gospel thrives through unity and mutual respect?
Reflect on how often communion becomes more ritual than inclusive practice.
Consider ways to extend the metaphor of communion into everyday hospitality. What divisions exist at your table, and how can they be healed?
Ask for insight into fostering genuine community and unity among believers.
Pray for grace always to see others through the unifying lens of Christ’s love.
Day 5
Matthew 9:9-13
Jesus’ radical table fellowship with sinners and tax collectors illustrates a key principle of the kingdom: mercy triumphs over judgment. This final day’s reflection focuses on Jesus’ intentional actions to sit with those considered ‘outsiders’. Despite social backlash, Jesus exemplified a table that was about transformation and acceptance.
As disciples, we are commissioned to carry this legacy forward. Our challenge is to embody this same revolutionary love, inviting others in despite differences or societal labels, proving the gospel not in words alone but in the everyday practice of shared meals and open hearts.
How does Jesus’ open table challenge my approach to community and inclusion?
What societal labels prevent me from seeing others as deserving of my fellowship?
How can my life more accurately reflect Jesus’ radical hospitality?
Pray for the heart of Jesus, to love unconditionally and inclusively.
Seek opportunities to express God's love through radical acceptance and hospitality.
