Living From Heaven Down
5 Day Devotional
This five-day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, November 23, 2025. We'll explore the powerful message shared, titled "Living from Heaven Down," based on Colossians 3:1-10. As we journey day by day, we'll delve into how our heavenly identity in Christ transforms our lives, freeing us from earthly distractions and calling us to grow into the image of our Creator.
Day 1
Scripture: Colossians 3:1-4
The beginning of our Christian journey is anchored in a transformative spiritual reality: we have been raised with Christ. This shift means we are no longer bound by our past or old selves. Our new identity invites us to seek and set our minds on heavenly things, reflecting a radical change in our values and motivations. By embracing this new position, we set our gaze on Christ, the supreme authority, and allow His desires to shape our thoughts and actions.
As believers, the challenge lies in actively disengaging from earthly distractions and focusing on our eternal security in Christ. This is not a call to neglect the world around us, but to live with a perspective that aligns our actions and thoughts with our heavenly citizenship. It’s about allowing our lives to be guided by Christ’s priorities and values, transforming our daily walk into a reflection of His Kingdom.
What old ideologies or preoccupations are you still holding onto?
How can you practically seek things that are above in your daily life?
What might change in your life if you truly believed you were raised with Christ?
Ask God to reveal areas where your mind is not set on heavenly things.
Pray for strength to actively pursue the things above with diligence.
Day 2
Scripture: Colossians 3:5-9
With our identity secured in heaven, we are called to confront and dismantle the remnants of our old selves. Paul's exhortation to "put to death" earthly desires is a call to take definitive action against sin. This process, known as mortification, is an active, Spirit-led effort to eradicate sinful patterns that no longer align with our new nature.
The journey of shedding the old self involves acknowledging the destructive nature of sins such as anger, malice, and impurity. By doing so, we make room for the new self to thrive in Christ's image. As we strip away these vices, we open ourselves to be renewed by knowledge of our Creator, allowing His image to be restored in us.
What earthly desires or habits in your life need to be put to death?
How does understanding the severity of sin motivate you to deal with it?
What steps can you take to actively strip away the practices of the old self?
Pray for the Holy Spirit's strength to confront and eradicate sin in your life.
Seek God's guidance to replace old habits with Christ-like virtues.
Day 3
Scripture: Colossians 3:10
The process of Christian growth involves not just removing the old, but actively cultivating the new life within us. As Paul describes, this is a continuous renewal of our nature to reflect the image of our Creator. Our new selves are in a state of constant transformation through our growing knowledge of God, drawing us closer to His intended design for humanity.
This transformation requires our participation; it invites us to commit to learning about God, immersing ourselves in Scripture, and fostering communion through prayer. The more we know about God, the more we understand our role in His creation, and the more equipped we are to embody Christ's character in our interactions with the world.
How does understanding God’s image influence your actions?
In what ways can you prioritize knowledge of God in your daily routine?
What does it mean to you to be made in the image of your Creator?
Pray for a hunger to study and understand God’s Word deeply.
Ask God to reveal His character through your pursuit of knowledge.
Day 4
Scripture: Romans 12:2
Living out our new identity in Christ requires ongoing transformation of our minds. Romans 12:2 invites us to actively renew our minds, breaking away from the patterns of the world and aligning with God’s perfect will. This renewal is not a passive process, but a deliberate reorientation of our thoughts and attitudes towards heavenly patterns.
As our perspective shifts, we start to see the world through God's eyes, valuing what He values and loving what He loves. This renewed vision empowers us to make choices that honor God, serving as witnesses of His transformative power in our own lives and the lives of those around us.
What worldly patterns do you need to break away from?
How can you transform your mind to align more closely with God’s will?
In what ways have you witnessed transformation in your own life?
Seek God’s help in understanding and applying His will in your life.
Pray for the wisdom to discern and resist worldly influences.
Day 5
Scripture: Philippians 3:13-14
The Christian journey is marked by perseverance and a constant pursuit of our heavenly calling. Paul urges us to forget what lies behind and strive toward what is ahead, pressing on toward the goal of Christlikeness. This pursuit involves both the joy of personal growth and the challenge of leaving behind past failures and successes.
Our focus is set on the heavenly prize of being fully united with Christ, which inspires us to live faithfully and passionately. As we press on, we are reminded that our path is guided by God's grace, ensuring that our ultimate victory is secure in Him.
What past challenges or successes are you holding onto that deter your progress?
How can you ensure that your focus remains on the heavenly prize?
What does it mean to you to press on towards Christlike maturity?
Pray for clarity in letting go of the past to embrace your future in Christ.
Ask God to empower you with perseverance as you pursue your heavenly calling.
