Am I Accepted? God's Radical Love for Everyone

5 Day Devotional

This five-day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from this weekend, exploring how God's radical love confronts our ingrained biases and invites us to embrace everyone into His family.

Day 1

Scripture: Acts 10:1-16

As we reflect on God's radical love, it is important to recognize that our biases often limit our perception of who belongs in God's family. The story of Peter and the vision he received challenges us to confront the walls we build around ourselves and others. It pushes us to question the categories we create based on appearances, backgrounds, and beliefs. Just as Peter was called to view the unclean as clean, we too are invited to expand our understanding of God's grace and love.

Let this day serve as a reminder that God's table is larger than our rules; it is inclusive and invites every person to participate. When we embrace this truth, we can begin to see others through the lens of God's love, rather than our biases and stereotypes. Reflect on how God's acceptance can transform not only our views but our relationships as well.

  • What biases do you recognize in your own life that may prevent you from seeing others as God sees them?

  • How can you challenge these ingrained beliefs in your daily interactions?

  • What steps can you take to invite someone different from you into your life this week?

  • Pray for God to reveal any hidden biases in your heart.

  • Ask for the courage to engage with someone you might typically distance yourself from.

Day 2

Scripture: Acts 10:17-23

The unfolding of Cornelius’ story illustrates the lengths to which God goes to bridge the divides between people. Cornelius was not only a Gentile but also a Roman centurion, a representative of the very power that oppressed the Jews. Yet God saw his heart, his prayers, and his good deeds. This day encourages us to remember that God does not look at outward appearances, but at the intention of our hearts.

In a world filled with labels and divisions, we are called to look beyond societal expectations and embrace the diverse tapestry of God's creation. By inviting everyone into a relationship with Him, we become conduits of His grace. Consider how your engagement with those whom society deems ‘other’ can reflect God’s own love and acceptance.

  • Who are the ‘Corneliuses’ in your life, those you might overlook or dismiss?

  • How can you show kindness to someone who falls outside your comfort zone?

  • What biases do you need to address in your relationships with others?

  • Pray for God to open your eyes to the beauty in diversity.

  • Ask for the strength to welcome others without prejudice.

Day 3

Scripture: Acts 10:24-33

This passage highlights a critical moment in Peter’s life where he steps into a Gentile’s home, breaking cultural and religious barriers. It illustrates the tipping point in God’s mission of inclusion. Peter’s obedience to the revelation he received serves as an encouragement for us to step outside our comfort zones. We are called to encounter one another with grace and a willingness to learn.

God orchestrated these moments to dismantle prejudices and extend His love to all. As we reflect on this, we should ask ourselves what stepping into uncomfortable situations might look like for us today. How can we be agents of change, dismantling walls of division and fostering genuine connection?

  • In what ways might you be hesitating to step into someone else's world?

  • How can you ensure a welcoming environment for individuals who feel excluded?

  • What cultural or social biases do you struggle with that may hinder your outreach?

  • Pray for the courage to reach out to someone unfamiliar.

  • Ask God for wisdom in nurturing inclusive relationships.

Day 4

Scripture: Acts 10:34-43

In these verses, Peter declares a powerful truth as he realizes God shows no favoritism. This revolutionary understanding expanded the early church's mission beyond the Jews to all nations. Just as Peter learned to embrace all of humanity within God's plan, we too are called to confront our biases and acknowledge the beauty of diversity within the body of Christ.

This day invites us to reflect on how God's acceptance is transformative, breaking down barriers and uniting us through His love. We must ask ourselves how we can be vessels of that inclusivity, extending grace and acceptance to everyone around us, regardless of their background. Let us envision a church that truly embodies the love and acceptance of Christ.

  • What does it mean to you that God shows no favoritism?

  • How can you contribute to a more inclusive church community?

  • What does embracing diversity look like in your current relationships?

  • Pray for a spirit of unity and acceptance within your community.

  • Ask God to prepare your heart to love as He loves.

Day 5

Scripture: Acts 10:44-48

The final verses of this chapter celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all who believed, regardless of their background. This moment signifies a new dawn in the church where barriers fall away and every believer is welcomed into God's family. As we conclude this devotional, we are reminded that everyone carries the potential for transformation and inclusion through God’s love.

Let this day serve as a call to action for us to pursue relationships with those who may seem different or distant. As we strive to embody the truth that God's love extends to everyone, we can make a profound impact not only in our lives but in the community around us. Our challenge is to actively participate in this unstoppable movement of love and grace.

  • How can you actively share God’s love with someone you typically exclude?

  • In what ways can you help others feel welcomed into God's family?

  • What steps will you take to ensure that God's table remains open for all?

  • Pray for a heart that reflects God’s boundless love.

  • Ask God to empower you to be an instrument of change and inclusion.
