From Pride to Gratitude
5 Day Devotional
As we begin our Overflow series, this five-day devotional invites you to go deeper into Sunday’s message from October 19, 2025. We’ll uncover what it means to move from pride to gratitude—and how that shift opens the door to a life overflowing with peace and purpose. Let these daily readings guide and grow your faith this week.
Day 1
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:11-12
On this first day, we delve into the theme of recognizing God as the ultimate Owner. In the sermon, Pastor Leonce shared how King David acknowledged God's sovereign ownership over all things with humility and gratitude. Just as David realized that everything in the heavens and on the earth belongs to God, we too are encouraged to see the hand of God in everything we own or achieve.
Understanding that everything comes from God shifts our perspective from pride and self-reliance to gratitude and stewardship. This perspective not only frees us from the pressures of ownership but also empowers us to live with joy and generosity.
What areas of your life do you struggle to surrender to God's ownership?
How does acknowledging God's sovereignty change your view on success and failure?
What steps can you take to practice gratitude in your daily life?
Pray for the grace to see God's hand in all aspects of your life.
Ask for the ability to shift from pride to gratitude in specific areas.
Day 2
Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:17-18
Today's reflection is on our role as temporary managers of God's gifts. Pastor Leonce emphasized that we are 'strangers and sojourners' on earth, mere stewards of the abundance God entrusts to us. This understanding makes us realize that our anxiety over possessions stems from a misplaced sense of ownership.
By viewing our resources as temporary loans from God, we can liberate ourselves from the fear of losing them. Recognizing the temporary nature of our time on earth encourages us to focus on eternal values and invest in the kingdom of God.
In what ways do you find yourself acting as an owner rather than a steward?
How can you practice being a better steward of the resources you have?
Reflect on the difference between temporary and eternal investments in your life.
Ask God to help you embrace your role as a steward of His resources.
Pray for wisdom to discern between temporary gains and eternal investments.
Day 3
Scripture: Philippians 2:5-8
On this day, we shift our focus to the ultimate act of humility demonstrated by Christ. Pastor Leonce talked about Jesus, who, having all the riches of heaven, chose to empty Himself and become a servant. This act of selfless humility stands as the ultimate model for living in gratitude instead of pride.
Just as Christ let go of His heavenly status, we are called to let go of our self-importance and ownership. By following His example, we can experience peace and fulfillment that overflow into every area of our lives.
How does Christ’s humility challenge your current lifestyle?
In what situations can you choose humility over pride?
What impact does embracing humility have on your relationships and community?
Pray for strength to embrace humility in all aspects of your life.
Ask for guidance to live out Christ-like humility in challenging situations.
Day 4
Scripture: Matthew 6:24
Today’s devotional brings us to the principle that no one can serve two masters. Pastor Leonce discussed how possessing pride limits us to self-reliance and results in constant anxiety. Jesus clearly taught that trying to serve both God and money strains our loyalty and peace.
Choosing to serve God frees us from the grip of materialism and anxiety-driven pride. By prioritizing God's sovereignty in our lives, we can pursue a life truly filled with overflowing joy and abundance.
Do you find yourself divided in your allegiances? If so, how?
How can you shift your focus from material concerns to God’s kingdom?
Reflect on the effects of trying to serve both God and money in your life.
Seek God’s guidance in aligning your priorities with His will.
Pray for the courage to serve God wholeheartedly, above all else.
Day 5
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:7
On our final day, we explore generosity as an expression of gratitude. Pastor Leonce highlighted that our responses to God's gifts should overflow with the joy of giving back to Him. Generosity becomes a testament to our trust in God's provision and our release of pride.
By giving joyfully and willingly, we not only fulfill God’s desires but also allow His blessings to flow through us to others. This creates a cycle of gratitude, where we are constantly replenished by His grace as we give.
How does generosity manifest in your life currently?
What obstacles prevent you from giving more freely?
Consider how joyful giving can impact your testimony to others.
Pray for a generous heart that reflects God’s love and provision.
Ask God to reveal ways you can give joyfully and generously.
