5 Day Devotional

This five-day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from Sunday, July 20th. We will explore the themes of connection, healing, and our relationship with God through the lens of Saroo's story in the film Lion.

Day 1

Scripture: Psalm 27:10

This devotional explores the deep and inherent need for connection that resonates within each of us. Just as Saroo's story reflects his struggle with abandonment and attachment, we can see parallels in our lives as we sometimes feel forsaken or alone. Yet, God's promise is clear—He will never leave us or forsake us. Embracing this assurance allows us to confront our fears of loneliness and separates ourselves from the shadows of past trauma, enabling us to grow in a loving relationship with Him.

  • What are some memories of abandonment that still affect me today?

  • In what ways can I lean into God’s promise that He will always be there for me?

  • How can I cultivate healthier relationships based on trust?

  • Ask God to reveal any areas of your life where you struggle with attachment.

  • Pray for the courage to trust Him with your fears and insecurities.

Day 2

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:7

This day focuses on the importance of casting our anxieties onto the Lord, just as Saroo's journey teaches us the necessity of seeking safety in the face of fear. The instinct to run from what feels unsafe can often lead to estrangement not only from others but from God. Today, let us reflect on the power of surrendering our fears and the healing that comes through entrusting our lives to Him.

When we intentionally lay our burdens at His feet, we create space for divine assistance and nurturing relationships in our lives. God is our ultimate refuge and comforter, reassuring us that we can find peace when we confront our fears rather than flee from them.

  • What fears do I need to surrender to God today?

  • How do I typically respond when I feel anxious or unsafe?

  • Who in my life reflects God’s comforting presence?

  • Pray for strength to open your heart and share your deeply held fears with God.

  • Seek His guidance on how to create safe spaces in your relationships.

Day 3

Scripture: Psalm 139:7-10

Today's focus is on the omnipresence of God and how this truth can comfort us in moments of feeling lost and alone. Saroo's pursuit of connection is reminiscent of our own search for belonging, and God's assurance that we cannot escape His presence reminds us we are never truly alone. Embracing this reality can lead to reconciling our identity and worth in Him.

Rather than running away from Him when we feel overwhelmed, we are called to lean in and experience His unending support and love. This understanding fosters deeper relationships with both God and others, as we unlock the courage to be vulnerable and open.

  • How have moments of feeling lost shaped my relationship with God?

  • In what ways do I see God’s presence in my life?

  • How can I cultivate greater awareness of His comfort in my daily routine?

  • Reflect on times you've felt God's presence when you were struggling.

  • Ask God to show you how to embrace His comfort amidst fear.

Day 4

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9

This devotional emphasizes God's grace being sufficient in our weaknesses. Just as Saroo experienced trauma that influenced his relationships, we too can find solace in recognizing that our shortcomings can draw us closer to God. His strength is made perfect amidst our vulnerabilities, allowing us to embrace who we are in His eyes.

In understanding that God meets us in our brokenness, we can begin to see our past traumas as opportunities for healing and growth. This day invites you to seek His grace actively in your struggles and identify how His presence can reshape your story into one of hope and resilience.

  • What aspects of my life need to be surrendered to God for healing?

  • How can I see the strength of God working through my weaknesses?

  • In what ways can I share my story of brokenness with others?

  • Pray for eyes to see God’s grace in your failures.

  • Seek opportunities to be vulnerable with others as a testimony to His strength.

Day 5

Scripture: Isaiah 61:1

Concluding the devotional series, we reflect on the theme of healing and restoration. Saroo's emotional journey culminates in a long-awaited reunion, mirroring the heart of God for His people—a desire to heal and restore relationships. This day reminds us that God's heart is for restoration, offering us the hope that we too can experience renewed connections and healing within our relationships.

As we embrace the invitation to connect deeply with God and allow His healing presence to intrude upon our wounds, we can enter into transformative relationships that reflect His love. This closing reflection encourages us to discover the abundant joy available when we place our trust in Him.

  • How do I see God's restoration playing a role in my relationships?

  • What steps am I willing to take to experience deeper healing?

  • How can I invite God's restoration into my community?

  • Pray for the courage to seek healing in your broken places.

  • Reflect on how God has restored relationships in your life and express gratitude for that work.
