PURPLE CHURCH

THE UNCOMPROMISING FAITH FOR A DIVIDED AGE

A short series exploring unity, conviction, and faithfulness to Jesus in a divided world.

Purple Church is our commitment to follow Jesus faithfully in a divided world. Here are answers to common questions about our convictions, our posture, and what you can expect as you explore the Purple Church series.

What is Purple Church?

  • Purple Church describes a community that refuses to reduce Christianity to political categories.

Instead of choosing sides, we choose Jesus.

We believe the Kingdom of God transcends partisan labels and calls us to faithfulness that is deeper, richer, and more demanding than any political ideology.

  • No.

United Church does not promote a political agenda. We focus on forming disciples of Jesus Christ.

People at United Church hold a range of political views, but we are united around Scripture, love for one another, and allegiance to Christ.

  • We approach every issue by starting with who Jesus is, not with cultural pressure or political talking points.

Our convictions are shaped by Scripture, and we aim to express them with grace, humility, and care.

We do not expect instant agreement, but we do invite honest engagement and faithful discipleship over time.

  • No.

You are welcome at United Church regardless of where you are on your spiritual journey.

Belonging here does not require agreement. Discipleship happens best in the context of community, trust, and time.

  • Grace means people are welcomed, respected, and treated with dignity.

Truth means we take Scripture seriously and allow Jesus to shape our lives.

We believe these are not opposites—but inseparable expressions of Christ’s character.

  • Yes.

Questions, doubts, and honest wrestling are welcome at United Church. We believe faith grows through thoughtful engagement, not pressure or pretending.

  • You are welcome here.

United Church is a community for seekers, skeptics, longtime Christians, and those returning to faith. Our invitation is simple: explore what it means to follow Jesus with us.

  • The goal is not to win arguments or divide people.

The goal is to form disciples who are:

    • Rooted in Scripture

    • Centered on Jesus

    • Serious about discipleship

    • Known for love in a divided world

WHY WE BELIEVE THIS

These convictions guide how we teach, how we engage culture, and how we follow Jesus together. They are rooted in Scripture and shaped by a desire to hold grace and truth without division.

We Believe Jesus Is Lord

At United Church, our primary allegiance is not to a political party, cultural movement, or social ideology.

It is to Jesus Christ.

We believe Jesus is not merely a teacher to admire, but the risen Lord to whom every part of life belongs—including our beliefs, our loves, and our ethics.

“Our citizenship is in heaven.” — Philippians 3:20

We Believe Belonging Comes Before Agreement

You do not have to agree with everything we believe to belong at United Church.

We are a church where questions are welcome, doubts are taken seriously, and people are respected at every stage of their journey.

At the same time, we believe discipleship involves learning to submit our lives—over time—to the loving authority of Jesus.

Belonging is not the same as discipleship, but discipleship grows best in the soil of belonging.

We Believe the Kingdom of God Transcends Politics

Scripture consistently resists being reduced to partisan categories.

The Kingdom of God confronts injustice and calls for personal holiness. It defends human dignity and invites repentance. It welcomes the outsider and forms people through truth.

This is why United refuses to collapse Christian faith into “left” or “right.” The gospel is bigger, deeper, and more demanding than any political platform.

We Believe Faith Should Produce Love, Not Division

Jesus said the world would recognise His followers not by their arguments, but by their love.

Our goal is not to win culture wars, but to form disciples whose lives reflect Christ—marked by humility, conviction, compassion, and faithfulness.

This is why we seek to be a church that is deeply rooted, biblically grounded, and genuinely welcoming.

We Believe Grace and Truth Are Inseparable

Jesus is described as being full of grace and truth—not balanced between them, not alternating between them.

Grace without truth leads to confusion.
Truth without grace leads to harm.

We believe faithful discipleship holds both together, following the example of Jesus—who welcomed people as they were and loved them too much to leave them unchanged.

In Short

We believe what we believe because we are convinced that:

  • Jesus is Lord.

  • Scripture is trustworthy.

  • Grace and truth belong together.

  • Love is the church’s most credible witness.

We are still learning.
We are still growing.
And we are committed to following Jesus together.
